Online survey on La Crosse school resource officers happening this week

Students and parents in the La Crosse School District have a couple more days to fill out a survey about school resource officers.

The online survey is aimed at helping the school board decide whether to keep police officers in school buildings.

The results will be reviewed later this week, so superintendent Aaron Engel can submit a report to the school board on November 16th.

The contract for SRO’s with city police ends next year, and at a recent forum on the topic, almost every speaker wanted the officer program to end.

Distrust or fear of having police officers in La Crosse school buildings has led to expectations that the school resource officer program will be ended next year.

The officers have been in La Crosse schools for almost 30 years.
