Hospitalizations of La Crosse residents up 12 in past 24 hours, Winona suffers 21st COVID death

While the state of Wisconsin set single-day records for cases, hospitalizations and deaths due to COVID-19, La Crosse County added 91 cases and 12 hospitalizations.

The county is also averaging 127 cases per day the past week, with total cases now at 5,626 according to the state.

The Coulee COVID-19 Collaborative dashboard shows the positivity rate for those tested is now 30.5%. It also shows 169 total hospitalizations of county residents — up 12 from Monday and up 20 from last week.


In surrounding counties, Winona suffered its 21st death from the virus — a resident between 75-79 years old.

Here’s a look at Tuesday’s update from the area:
TREMPEALEAU: 62 new cases (Avg. 41 cases/day past week – 1,500 total – 460 active – 12 hospitalized)
MONROE: 47 new cases (Avg. 44 cases/day past week – 1,683 total – 393 active – 4 hospitalized)
JACKSON: 43 new cases (Avg. 39 cases/day past week – 985 total – 277 active – 9 hospitalized)
VERNON: 14 new cases (Avg. 21 cases/day past week – 720 total – 199 active – 10 hospitalized)
WINONA: 39 new cases (Avg. 42 cases/day past week – 1,760 total)
HOUSTON: 15 new cases (Avg. 15 cases/day past week – 358 total)

Minnesota: 189,681 cases, 11,933 hospitalizations, 2,698 deaths

Meanwhile, Wisconsin added single-day highs with 7,073 cases, 291 hospitalizations and 66 deaths.

As of Tuesday, there were just 128 intensive care beds available, and those could fill up within a week if the current trend continues. The state has 2,070 hospitalized with the virus — 418 in the ICU — both all-time highs.

As shown above, Wisconsin is averaging 5,825 cases a day the past week. On Sept. 10, just as the surge was beginning, that average was 1,003.

Minnesota added 4,906 cases — the second-most in a single day — a record-high 262 hospitalizations and 23 deaths.

There are 1,224 hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state, including 249 in the ICU — both all-time highs.

Iowa added another 3,917 cases, 230 hospitalizations — the most ever — and 26 deaths — the second-most ever to Monday’s 27 deaths. There are 1,190 hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state, also the most ever.
