La Crosse Airport spends more on PFAS search
La Crosse’s aviation board is putting more money into the search for PFAS chemicals in French Island ground water.
The board has voted to spend $75,000 on the continuing effort to find pollution from firefighting foam that’s been used at the airport.
The director of the airport, Ian Turner, says testing well water is an expensive process, with water samples being sent for testing to a lab in South Carolina.
PFAS have been found at two city-owned wells near the airport.
The new spending would raise the amount of money spent by the airport on the chemical problem to $142,000.
Turner says water used at the terminal would not be affected, because the building is connected to the city water system.
The city of La Crosse has offered to test well water at homes close to the airport for PFAS.
