Dairyland Power donates $11K to Hunger Task Force
A local electric company is helping Coulee Region families put dinner on the table during the holidays.
The Hunger Task Force has accepted an $11,000 gift from La Crosse’s Dairyland Power.
“Coming into the holidays, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic, we think that this is an important (donation) with food insecurity this holiday season,” said Dairyland president Brent Ridge.
Hunger Task Force director Shelly Fortner accepted the gift outside the Dairyland offices in south La Crosse on Monday, saying the $11,000 could pay most of the cost of utility bills needed to keep donated food in freezers.
Ridge says the utility also is looking at ways to save energy, so customers can reduce their bills and have more money to spend at local businesses.
Dairyland provides power to customers in four states.
The Hunger Task Force covers an eight-county region in the tri-state area.
