A local tradition persists to help spread holiday cheer during a pandemic.

The Sixth Annual Kriskindlmarkt will open in downtown Sparta on Water Street Friday at 4:00 p.m. The traditional European winter market will feature local artisan wares, baked goods, hand-made ornaments, and more.

“We felt it was more important than ever to provide a safe place in the community for holiday magic to be created and shared,” organizers shared on Facebook. “Our outdoor market enables everyone to physically distance while being together in the Christmas spirit.”

They asked visitors to be together with household members, stay 6 feet apart, wear a mask, and be kind.

The market will be open Fridays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The final day will be Saturday, Dec. 12.
