Four more COVID-19 deaths of La Crosse County residents, five hospitalized; Vernon suffers 7th death in past 7 days
Four deaths, 191 new cases of COVID-19 out of La Crosse County today.
It’s the 41st death of a county resident — the ninth in the past 11 days. There were 15 virus deaths in November and 18 in October.
The first death of a La Crosse County resident was reported on July 16. The second came Aug. 28. The next three came between Sept. 23-29. Everyone who’s died from the virus in the county has been 60 or older.
Also, five more La Crosse residents were also hospitalized — 163 since Nov. 1 and 263 total.
La Crosse has averaged 96.9 cases per day over the past week, where the positivity rate has been 36.1%.
For Vernon County, it was the 19th death — the seventh in the past week and 14th in past 18 days.
Here’s a look at case and hospitalization numbers in surrounding counties:
VERNON: 39 new cases (24.3/day past week – 1,214 total – 224 active – 12 hospitalized)
TREMPEALEAU: 52 new cases (31.7/day past week – 2,507 total – 538 active – 20 hospitalized)
MONROE: 62 new cases (40.0/day past week – 2,798 total – 342 active – 11 hospitalized)
JACKSON: 28 new cases (21.0/day past week – 1,793 total – 197 active – 10 hospitalized)
WINONA: 56 new cases (55.6/day past week – 2,978 total)
HOUSTON: 31 new cases (24.3/day past week – 800 total)

Statewide, Wisconsin added another 7,534 cases, Minnesota 6,166 and Iowa 2,564.
Of those tested for COVID-19 in Wisconsin over the past week, 31.7% were positive, according to DHS.
Hospitalizations Thursday in each state looked like this: Wisconsin 172, Minnesota 245 and Iowa 123.
The death toll in Wisconsin on Thursday was 60. In Minnesota it was 92 and in Iowa a single-day record 84. Iowa’s previous daily high was 70, which came Wednesday.
The three highest daily death counts in the pandemic have all come in the past week, for Minnesota. At the current growth rate, Minnesota COVID-19 deaths would double in 42 days, adding 3,784 more dead by Jan. 14.
