Six COVID-19 deaths Friday in Coulee Region, including La Crosse

Six COVID-19 deaths in the Coulee Region reported on Friday, including one in La Crosse County.

It’s the 44th COVID-19 death in La Crosse — the sixth death in nine days of a county resident. There were also five more hospitalized, bringing that total to 41 this month.

La Crosse is averaging 65.6 cases per day the past week with a 24.0% positivity rate.

In surrounding counties, Winona suffered its 37th and 38th deaths. The county has had five deaths in three days and eighth this month.

It’s Vernon’s 25th death — the fifth in the past five days, and 15th in the past 19 days.

For Trempealeau, it’s the 24th overall death — the third in four days and ninth in the past 12 days.

Houston has had five deaths — four of them since Nov. 27.


Here’s a look at cases and hospitalizations in surrounding counties:
VERNON: 25 new cases (1,326 total – 159 active – 8 hospitalized)
TREMPEALEAU: 13 new cases (2,688 total – 421 active – 17 hospitalized)
JACKSON: 30 new cases (2,050 total – 290 active – 7 hospitalized)
MONROE: 30 new cases (3,057 total – 284 cases – 11 hospitalized)
WINONA: 26 new cases (3,248 total)
HOUSTON: 22 new cases (951 total)


Statewide, Wisconsin added 3,858 cases, 145 hospitalizations and 47 deaths on Friday.

Wisconsin is averaging 3,629 cases, 154 hospitalizations and 52 deaths per day the past week.

Minnesota is averaging 4,591 cases, 203 hospitalizations and 64 deaths a day the past week.

Minnesota reported 3,773 cases, 222 hospitalizations and 94 deaths Friday. The death toll Friday was the third-highest ever. The fourth and fifth highest ever in the state were the two days prior. Minnesota has suffered 268 deaths over the past three days.

The five days with the highest death tolls in Minnesota have all taken place since Nov. 27.

Iowa added 2,399 cases, 125 hospitalizations and 77 deaths. The state has had 278 deaths the past three days.
