Drivers in La Crosse could see lots of road construction north of downtown next year.

The board of public works has okayed design plans for improving the boulevard on Copeland Avenue, near the old Mobil Oil site, which is being turned into the River Point district.

The work includes improvements at a sewer lift station on Copeland, and new traffic lights at the intersection of Causeway and Copeland Avenue.

Short Elliott Hendrickson has designed the project.

The work on Copeland could begin yet this month, but construction may last through all of next year.
