Free, rapid testing site at UW-L will remain open through Jan. 22 — but closes for holiday
The COVID-19 surge testing site on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse campus will be extended through Jan. 22
The site, located on the third floor of the Cartwright Center, will close at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Jan. 4.
The free testing site can be used by anyone in the La Crosse area. It provides rapid tests that produce results in 30 minutes, as well as the more accurate PCR tests, which take 3-5 days for results.
The site was initially going to run for six weeks. UW-L says that’s been extended because of “added support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.”
DHS provided 250,000 of these tests.
Through last week, the site was averaging 313 rapid tests per day — and 27 PCR tests.
It did a record 572 tests the Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
