Four COVID-19 deaths Thurs. of La Crosse County residents — four more in area
Four more COVID-19 deaths Thursday of La Crosse County residents, as well as four other deaths from surrounding counties.
It’s the 14th death in the past 16 days of a La Crosse County resident, and 52nd overall. While December has had 14, by comparison there were 15 deaths in November and 18 in October.
Of the 52 deaths, 33 were people aged 80 and older.
There were also another 87 cases Thursday in the county, as well as one more resident hospitalized — bringing that total to 47 hospitalizations in December.
The 87 cases is the most in 10 days. The county is averaging 62.3 cases per day the past week with a 27.5% positivity rate over that time.
The other COVID-19 deaths reported Thursday were in Winona, Vernon, Jackson and Monroe counties.
For Vernon, it’s the 30th overall — 10th in 11 days and 20th in the past 25 days.
For Monroe, it’s the 24th overall — the fifth in the past 10 days and ninth this month.
For Winona, it’s the 41st overall — the ninth in 12 days and 18th in the past 29 days.
And, for Jackson, it’s the 10th overall — third in the past four days and fifth in the past 11 days.

VERNON: 13 new cases (14.3/day past week – 1,401 total – 176 active – 8 hospitalized)
TREMPEALEAU: 25 new cases (17.9/day past week – 2,820 total – 407 active – 12 hospitalized)
MONROE: 25 new cases (23.1/day past week – 3,189 total – 246 active – 9 hospitalized)
JACKSON: 22 new cases (16.6 cases/day past week – 2,136 total – 142 active – 9 hospitalized)
WINONA: 25 new cases (21.4 cases/day past week – 3,370 total)
HOUSTON: 16 new cases(16.7 cases/day past week – 1,044 total)

Statewide, Wisconsin added 3,643 cases, 129 hospitalizations and 59 deaths. Over the past week, the state is averaging 60 less hospitalizations per day than it did in November.
Minnesota added 2,775 cases, 192 hospitalizations and 83 deaths. The state has had 80 or more deaths six times in the past eight days and eight times ever — all coming since Nov. 27.
Iowa added 1,890 cases, 96 hospitalizations and 97 deaths. The state has had over 95 deaths four times in the past 11 days.
