La Crosse Airport expects slight increase in holiday traffic
Americans have been strongly advised to avoid travel this Christmas, to prevent a wider spread of COVID-19, but that’s not stopping families from filling airports this week.
La Crosse Airport director Ian Turner expects about a 5 to 10 per cent increase in passengers for the holidays.
Turner says that number is “less than I had hoped, but it’s still additional passengers traveling through the La Crosse Airport, which is good to see.
The director is pleased that people have continued to fly commercial for business and medical purposes.
Since September, the airport has had about 50 per cent of the passenger levels seen a year ago.
Because of COVID, passenger load dropped sharply in the spring, down 95 per cent in April from the same month in 2019.
Just over 95,000 flew through the airport last year, but this year’s total is expected to be slightly above 40,000.
