No new COVID-19 hospitalizations of La Crosse County residents for 1st time in a month — 75 more cases

Another 75 cases of COVID-19 Wednesday in La Crosse County, while both Vernon and Monroe counties suffered deaths.

It’s the most cases in a week. The county is now averaging 55.1 cases per day the past week with a 26.2% positivity rate over that time.

There were no new hospitalizations of county residents Wednesday, which hasn’t happened since Nov. 20.

The Coulee COVID-19 Collaborative also released its weekly update, as it does every Wednesday.

Three metrics have moved to green and one to yellow. Just a few weeks ago, all nine metrics used to gauge virus activity were in the red.

Hospital care capacity is now in green. New hospitalizations rate, however, is still in the red at 11.9 hospitalized per day, per 100,000 people. That number six weeks ago, though, was was 27.6 hospitalized per day.

In surrounding counties, Monroe’s death was its 26th overall — 14th in the past month. For Vernon, it was the 31st death — 19th in the past month.


Here’s a look at cases and current hospitalizations in surrounding counties:
VERNON: 9 new cases (10.4/day past week – 1,461 total – 174 active – 6 hospitalized)
TREMPEALEAU: 14 new cases (14.3/day past week – 2,875 total – 343 active – 7 hospitalized)
MONROE: 35 new cases (24.4/day past week – 3,335 total – 184 active – 5 hospitalized)
JACKSON: 5 new cases (27.9/day past week – 2,309 total – 250 active – 8 hospitalized)
WINONA: 11 new cases (16.3/day past week – 3,464 total)
HOUSTON: 29 new cases (13.1/day past week – 1,118 total)
FILLMORE: 9 new cases (1,028 total)

Statewide, a day after setting a single-day high with 120 deaths, Wisconsin reported 69 more Wednesday, along with 2,579 cases and 164 hospitalizations.

The state is averaging about 60 deaths and 123 hospitalizations a day, the past week. Last month, the state averaged 43 deaths a day and 191 hospitalizations.

Minnesota added 1,513 cases, 147 hospitalizations and 75 deaths. The deaths is 21 above its average the past week, and comes after the state had back-to-back days with deaths in the 20s.

Iowa added 1,821 cases, 106 hospitalizations and 15 deaths. The state is averaging 21 more deaths the past week than in November, but cases are down over 1,700 a day.
