Sparta shooting suspect going to trial

A Milwaukee man charged in a drug-related murder in Sparta will be scheduled for trial in the new year. 

Eric Borges pled ‘not guilty’ last month to the summertime shooting of Anthony Koopman, and his attorney is now asking for a jury trial. 

Borges is also accused of armed robbery and dealing meth. 

Three people from the Milwaukee area have been charged with Koopman’s death.

A second man, Michael Hartmann, is expected to reach a plea agreement in January.

The third suspect is Damara Skenandore-Medina, and she has been scheduled for a two-week trial around Thanksgiving next year.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
