It looks like La Crosse County will mark its 4th year in a row of more than 1000 felony cases, and the thousand mark could be reached on Tuesday.

The total of felony filings for 2020 is up to 997, as of late Monday, compared to 1107 felonies for last year.

The 1000th felony of 2019 was reached around Thanksgiving.

Local law enforcement has made an effort this year to reduce the number of court cases, because of COVID-19 restrictions on courtroom activity.

The number of felonies in the county has gone down for the second straight year, from a total above 12-hundred charges in 2018.

Local drug activity has been blamed for much of the crime increase in recent years.

The 997th felony case involved drunk driving and hit-and-run.
