We could have even more candidates on La Crosse’s April ballot before the day is over, and this is the last day papers can be filed for the spring election, with the deadline at 5 o’clock.

Zebulon Kemp and Joe Konradt both declared as candidates for mayor of La Crosse on Monday, bringing the potential field of mayoral hopefuls to 10.

Kemp and previously announced contender Chris Stolpa actually submitted papers on Monday.

Konradt and Paul Weber have not brought their papers to the clerk yet.

The rush of candidates for mayor began when incumbent Tim Kabat announced on December 1st that he would not seek a third term.

In the 11th council district, a second candidate for city council, Richard Korish, has filed against Jennifer Trost.  Incumbent Martin Gaul is giving up that seat to run for mayor.

As of Tuesday morning, only the 7th and 9th Districts have one declared council candidate each, and both are open seats.
