La Crosse parking fines drop by over $265,000 in 2020, compared to 2019

La Crosse’s Police Parking Utility published its 2020 year-end report Tuesday.

With a COVID-19 pandemic, the city did allow free parking for two months, implemented curbside pickup and delivery locations downtown.

In comparing 2020 to 2019, the amount in fines dropped by $265,234.20 with 14,781 less citations issued.

The city also brought in $130,941.50 less in pay station/Passport App fees in 2020, as compared to 2019 with 45,686 fewer transitions at pay stations, online and with the Passport App.

The parking utility did take in $69,768.36 more in parking permit fees, though it sold 638 less ramp permits (2,292 in 2019 vs. 1,654 in 2020).

There were 67 fewer cars immobilized and total fines dropped by $37,524.24 from 2019 to 2020.
