A car fire was extinguished late Wednesday afternoon outside a Kwik Trip on the north side of La Crescent, near the community events center, and the driver who survived the fire is facing unrelated criminal charges.

Driver Kelly Brocker reportedly got out safely before flames spread into her car, which was in the gas station parking lot.

Mechanical issues may have caused the fire.

La Crescent police chief Doug Stavenau says a routine background check showed that the 37-year-old Brocker is wanted in Hennepin County on fraud charges, and a search turned up drug paraphernalia.

Brocker was briefly booked in the Houston County jail.
