Daily COVID-19 case average in La Crosse County higher Tuesday than a week ago

One county resident hospitalized, 35 new cases of COVID-19 in La Crosse on Tuesday.

The county went four days without a new hospitalization. There have been 44 this month. November had the most hospitalizations at 108. There were 71 in December.

Case wise, La Crosse is now averaging 45.0 a day over the past week. Last week that number was 41. Cases had been coming down each week since the beginning of January.

In surrounding counties, only Monroe added double-digit cases Tuesday. It also reported its 30th death Monday — the fourth in the past month, two of which were reported Jan. 19.

Statewide, cases have dropped this week to last in Wisconsin and Minnesota but rose slightly in Iowa. Average hospitalizations a day in Wisconsin and Minnesota are leveling off this week to last, but have dropped significantly in Iowa. The death toll in Wisconsin and Minnesota has also dropped significantly. Iowa’s data is too sporadic to gauge the averages but the state has reported single-digit deaths each of the past three days.
