Ten candidates for mayor split into 2 groups for debates on WIZM at 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday

There are 10 candidates running to become La Crosse’s next mayor, filling the seat that Tim Kabat will leave, after he decided not to seek reelection.

WIZM will host a pair of debates at 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, splitting those candidates into two groups of five. They can be viewed by clicking here or on the WIZM app, otherwise listen on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM.

The 10 candidates also filled out a questionnaire to discuss their campaigns. Those answers can be found by clicking here.

Feb. 16 is the primary to cut the candidates from 10 to two. The election to select La Crosse’s next mayor is April 6.

Monday’s debate will feature Katherine Blanchard, Jessica Olson, Mitch Reynolds,
Chris Stolpa and Greg Saliaras.

Tuesday’s debate will include Martin Gaul, Zebulan Kemp, Joe Konradt, Vicki Markussen, and Samuel Schneider.

Each question will be asked to a pair of candidates, who will have up to a minute to answer.

The other three candidates will then have an opportunity to comment up to 30 seconds.

Finally, the original two candidates will then have a final word on the topic for 30 more seconds, before moving on to the next pair and next question.

UW-La Crosse political science professor, Dr. Anthony Chergosky, will host the debate. Monday, WIZM’s Scott Robert Shaw and Kaitlyn Riley will serve as panelists asking questions. Tuesday, those panelists will be Brad Williams and Rick Solem.
