Michel Brewery arch still available for purchase
You can own a piece of the rock…the stone entrance to La Crosse’s old Michel Brewery.
The city of La Crosse has kept the pieces of the entrance since the brewery on 3rd Street was torn down in 1997, to make way for a car dealership, and city leaders have spent years trying to find someone to take the Michel arch off their hands.
City council member Gary Padesky hopes the arch can be displayed publicly, and won’t be destroyed.
The utility department has set a May 1st deadline for moving the stone pieces off the sewer plant property on Isle La Plume, so the plant can be enlarged.
Utilities director Bernie Lenz tells the board of public works that some people have been interested in taking the arch, but then lost interest when they heard about the work that would be involved in moving it.
