Two long-time members of the La Crosse Boys and Girls Clubs have accepted full scholarships to attend Viterbo.

Becky Strittmater and Nathaniel Powell signed the scholarship papers on Thursday at the Mathy Center on the Viterbo campus.

The Boys and Girls Clubs began presenting college scholarships to La Crosse area members last year.

Becky said deciding to attend Viterbo was an easy choice to make.

“I really felt home here at Viterbo,” she said. “I really enjoyed just how it’s all laid out, it’s very tight-knit, it’s not spread out all over the place.”

Strittmater began coming to the Boys and Girls Club when she was 5 years old, and is now on the club staff.

Nathaniel says getting a Viterbo scholarship is an ‘unbelievable gift.’

“I just know that Viterbo is a place I can call a home away from home,” he said. “Being able to attend such an amazing university cost-free is more than I could ever ask for. It’s almost like a dream to me.”

Powell also spoke of how the Boys and Girls Club has helped him grow up, especially while overcoming thyroid cancer.

Strittmater has been named the local club’s Youth of the Year, and will compete for the statewide title next month.
