New vaccine plans please one area hospital
La Crosse County will soon get a state-run vaccination clinic.
The proposed site has not been announced yet, but the county is among four locations in Wisconsin which are supposed to open clinics in the next two months.
It’s welcome news to Jason Fratzke, an area incident commander at Mayo. He tells WIZM’s La Crosse Talk that doctors want to see the COVID vaccination rate increased soon.
Fratzke says Mayo has been giving about 450 to 600 shots a day in the La Crosse area, “but if we were able to get to over a thousand, I think we’d be in good shape, but of course if we get more, we’ll figure it out.”
Fratzke of Mayo says the clinic has been busy giving vaccines to employees, and then patients 65 or older, “but we’re still talking about 15, maybe 20 per cent of the population” having been immunized or infected. He’s pleased that people continue to wear masks and social distance even as the vaccine becomes more available.
