Local hospitals get clothing donations for sexual assault victims

A project to help victims of sexual assault in the La Crosse area has gotten good results.

Mayo Clinic in La Crosse accepted hundreds of clothing items this week that were collected to be used by women who are sent to hospitals for examination after an assault.

Kathy Roush of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners program at Mayo worked with Onalaska High School student Jessica Randall to make the donations possible.

“We talked about the fact that they often have to go home without their clothes on, we collect those as part of the evidence process,” said Roush, “and so she (Randall) decided to try to do something to help.”

Roush calls it “unique” for a student like Randall to come up with this kind of a service project.

Randall plans to attend medical school, and hopes the Survivor Clothing Drive she started will be continued by other students after she graduates from Onalaska.

Donated clothing is also headed to Gundersen, and Randall plans to make it a year-round project.

That was an awesome idea. 🙂 Thank you, Jessica, for thinking of others dealing with an absolutely horrific situation.
