Local victory gardens starting for the season

Calling all green thumbs.  La Crosse is looking for volunteers to help raise vegetables at ‘victory gardens’ throughout the city.

Friday was scheduled to be planting day at the Aptiv garden on South Avenue, while gardening has been underway for weeks at the Kane Street community site.

Todd Huffman from the local Hunger Task Force says the gardens provide families with free food, and a chance to grow something for your neighbors.

City Hall and the Hogan administration center will start their gardens for this spring next weekend, on May 1st.

Anyone in the community is welcome to stop by the gardens to pick vegetables for their own use, as well as putting in time to plant vegetables and tend to the gardens.
