Driver and passenger names released in fatal crash near Genoa

The names of two people killed on Tuesday in a Vernon County crash have been released. 

Fifty-nine-year-old Jody Duwe and 10-year-old Nevaeh Niemyjski were both from Genoa. 

They died after a turkey hit their car on Highway 56, and Duwe lost control, going into a ditch before returning to the road and colliding with a pickup truck.  The pickup driver, Joshua Dummer from West Salem, was injured and taken to Mayo in La Crosse. 

The accident happened early Tuesday morning. It was the first fatal traffic accident of 2021 in Vernon County.  There was one traffic death in the county last year. 

 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
