The final word on election outcome?

Published

on

Can this please be the final word? Six months after the presidential election, and we are still fighting over its validity. The results were tabulated in every Wisconsin county, then the votes were canvassed in order to certify the results. In some counties there were recounts, but the vote totals continued to show Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump to win Wisconsin. Governor Evers and the chair of the State Election Commission then signed the paperwork officially confirming Biden’s win. Still, there were lawsuits, all unsuccessful. In the latest, and perhaps final ruling on this controversy, an independent law firm has helped settle a lawsuit filed against Evers and a member of the election commission. That lawsuit argued that the Elections Commission should have had a chance to weigh in on the election results before they were certified, but that idea has been shot down by a Madison law firm. Ironically, that suit was brought by another member of the same elections commission. The commission has now formally accepted the results. Biden won. Trump lost. At least one Republican member of the Commission voted with democratic members to accept the results. Let’s hope this is the final word. It is long past time to accept the results of a legitimate election, and move on.
