We won’t forget Capitol siege no matter how badly they want us to

We all saw what happened that day. But despite the fact that our precious democracy came under attack at the U. S. Capitol on January 6, we may never know just how such a thing could happen. A large group of cowardly lawmakers refused to vote for an investigation into the violent siege, essentially ending the idea of creating an independent commission to get to the bottom of how such a thing could happen. That is despite the fact that the commission itself would be bipartisan, with five democrats and five republicans. It is shameful that those who voted against getting to the bottom of this stain on the nation’s history are trying to whitewash the incident. Some continue to downplay the seriousness of the event as they block attempts to seek the truth. These lawmakers all took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. Their “no” vote has done just the opposite. Why are they so afraid of seeking the truth about one of the darkest days in our nation’s history? They may want to forget that ugly scene, but we must remember that day, and hopefully learn something from it so we ensure it can never happen again.
