As I See It

Why do politicians never want to do anything else?

It seems too early. It always does. It is campaign season again. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced, unsurprisingly, that he plans to seek a second term. Democrats held their virtual convention to formalize their plans and largely pat themselves on the back. While Evers is in, his Lt. Governor may not be on the ticket with him. Mandela Barnes is said to be considering a run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Ron Johnson. Johnson hasn’t announced whether he will run again, despite his repeated promise that he would not serve more than two terms. It is becoming a crowded field in the race for the Wisconsin Senate Seat and it is sure to be noisy. The race for Governor will likely be a knock-down, drag-out. Former Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch is likely to seek to call the Governor’s Mansion home. The vote won’t come until next year, but now that things have officially kicked off, we will be bombarded with plenty of promises and attacks on the other party. It seems to just get worse. It makes me wonder why so many of those we elect to public office are so intent on staying in politics. Why spend more than a year of your life battling through a campaign dodging political mudslinging? There must be something about those political jobs they just can’t seem to want to let go of. Must be a pretty good gig.  Too bad they spend more time trying to keep their jobs than actually doing their jobs.
