Riverfest ready to return after a year off

There may not be a beer tent, but there will be beer. And food. And attractions, as Riverfest makes it back to Riverside Park this week.

The festival begins at 4 p.m. Wednesday and runs through Sunday.

Along with the many musical performers, Riverfest will feature a cornhole tournament, a clog jam, the Firecracker 4-mile, train rides, the River City Water Skiers, the Dialed Action BMX Stunt Team, South Bluffs Wizards jump rope team, a pole vault competition and wrestling.

Here’s a complete schedule.

Event spokesman Derek Martin said instead of having a single beer tent and a separate food tent, Riverfest will have several beverage booths and food vendors throughout the park.

Volunteers have spent recent days setting up tables and tents along the riverfront, much like you would normally see during the Riverfest, first held in 1983.

Bill La Rue, the commodore from the 2019 Riverfest, says several past commodores will be at the park in late afternoon most days of the event, except Wednesday.

Riverfest did not choose a commodore for this year, because of the short period for planning.

Fireworks will happen on the river the first and last nights of the event.
