Boyer’s to make way for roundabout
A long-time furniture store in La Crosse is preparing to move, to make way for road improvements on the south side of the city.
The DOT is planning to build a roundabout at the intersection of West and South Avenues, which would displace Boyer’s Budget Furniture on South Avenue.
The city board of public works has voted on a temporary lease agreement with Boyer’s to stay at its current location until it moves to a new north-side location, expected to be at George and Gillette Streets.
Boyer’s was founded in 1912 and was located downtown for many years before moving to South Avenue.
The board also has approved a design contract to connect City Hall with the airport by fiber optic lines.
The winning bid for the project goes to ISG, which is a contractor on the La Crosse Center expansion project. The bid was close to $18,000.
Airport director Ian Turner says the fiber extension plan would involve running fiber across the Black River from French Island to Highway 35 on the north end of La Crosse.
