La Crosse cops answer dozens of fireworks complaints over holiday
The peak fireworks season may be past, with the 4th of July behind us, but you never know when some rude neighbor could start lighting firecrackers late at night.
That leads to babies crying, dogs barking, and people calling the police.
In La Crosse, Sergeant Cory Brandl says the department got around 80 complaints about loud fireworks between Friday and Monday of the holiday weekend. That was more than 10 per cent of all their calls, says Brandl.
The city fine for using illegal fireworks is $130. And Brandl says if you’re setting off the “fun ones,” those are probably not legal.
Brandl says pets, children, and veterans can be disturbed by loud fireworks. His advice: “Be a kind neighbor.”
