Million-dollar bond set for La Crosse County murder suspects

A cash bond of $1 million has been set for both of the men accused in a triple-homicide at a La Crosse County quarry.

Judge Scott Horne imposed the bond on Friday, on Nya Thao and Khamthaneth Rattanasack.

The suspects were captured separately in central Wisconsin this week, on charges of shooting three men over allegedly a $600 debt.

The murders of Peng Lor, Nemo Yang, and Trevor Maloney reportedly occurred on the morning of July 23, before quarry employees arrived for work that day.

Horne cited the gravity of the homicide charge in setting the high bond.

Rattanasack and Thao are scheduled for another hearing on Aug. 13, and they have been ordered to avoid contact with families of the victims.

Investigators say Rattanasack gave Thao a gun to shoot the three male victims as they were ordered to kneel on the ground outside the quarry.

The victims were shot multiple times in the head and chest.

Attorney Christopher Zachar, representing Thao in court, said his client is “100% absolutely innocent,” and suggests that investigators are holding back important evidence.
