Homeless coordinator proposed for La Crosse, more money for PFAS testing
A new full-time management position is being proposed at La Crosse City Hall, to organize efforts to reduce homelessness in the community.
The city finance committee approves the plan for a Homeless Services Coordinator, and the full council will get a vote next week.
City planning director Andrea Trane says a special million-dollar grant would provide money for that new position.
Mayor Mitch Reynolds says the coordinator would work with La Crosse County departments and non-profit agencies to get their programs for the homeless working toward the same goals.
In other committee business, a plan to spend more money testing La Crosse city wells for PFAS chemicals gets approval.
City leaders are being asked to approve $75,000 more for testing at the airport, near the city’s wells 23 and 24.
The new funding would come from the city’s general fund, and an airport fund. The full council votes on the plan next week.
