Special disease supervisor could be hired by La Crosse County

The COVID pandemic has led La Crosse County to consider hiring a new health department staffer who would specialize in communicable diseases. 

On Wednesday, the county executive committee will consider hiring a communicable disease supervisor, to start in October. 

The hiring would be more urgent than waiting to include a new position in the county’s 2022 budget.

A resolution states that in a normal year, La Crosse County would experience around 900 cases of communicable illness. 

During 2020, the number of such cases in the county ballooned to 11-thousand because of COVID-19.   

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
