The suspect in a Houska Park murder now has a court-appointed lawyer, though they have yet to meet.

Pearson Jr.

David Pearson, Jr., is accused of stabbing Cameron Baker in the chest during an argument at Houska Park on June 28.

In court Wednesday, La Crosse County Judge Gloria Doyle told Pearson that attorney Kimberly Zhang has been named to handle his defense.  Zhang was not present for the hearing, so another court date is being scheduled.

Pearson remains in jail on a $500,000 bond.

Doyle said Zhang may not have been given the right date or time for the hearing.

Pearson is charged with reckless homicide in the alleged stabbing.

Apparently, Baker had been causing a disturbance at the park. The two men then got into a fight when Pearson allegedly stabbed Baker in the chest.

Despite efforts by paramedics, Baker died of his injuries.
