It was a somber scene in southern Minnesota, six years ago.

Eight hearses traveled from a mass funeral at a La Crescent church to a nearby cemetery on August 20th, 2015.  The funeral and burials were for former La Crosse area resident Valerie Jackson and her husband, along with 6 children ages 6 to 13, who were all shot to death that month in Houston, Texas.

Jackson’s ex-boyfriend David Conley, who also lived in La Crosse for a time, is charged with the murders.  Conley was the father of one of the children killed.

The case made national news, but it has never gone to trial.  However, a Houston TV station reports Conley will be tried starting October 4th, following months of postponement because of COVID-19.

It’s possible that at least one local relative of the victims will testify at the trial.
