Less than a month ago, Holmen School Board members were not wearing masks at their meetings.

But because of a surge of COVID, the board wanted people to put on masks for last night’s meeting.  And people who chose not to wear masks were removed by a police officer from the meeting room.

Speakers from the public spent most of the first hour of the Holmen board meeting commenting on new mask rules, requiring young students up through 6th grade to be masked for the first part of the new school year.

One speaker warned that this could become a school board election issue in the spring, while another was concerned that the continued spread of COVID could lead to a shortage of available hospital beds in the region.
