Downtown plan for 2040 up for approval in La Crosse

The city of La Crosse is busy planning for two decades into the future. 

On Monday, the city plan commision is scheduled to vote on whether to approve the “Imagine 2040 La Crosse Downtown Plan.” 

That resolution also calls for the City Vision 2040 steering committee to be abolished, after having produced the new plan. 

The project includes the objectives of promoting a network of strong neighborhoods, a confluence of nature, and offering new development. 

The downtown district is defined as the area bordered by the Mississippi and La Crosse Rivers, West Avenue, and Jackson Street. 

The 2040 plan was put together after a series of steering committee meetings, walking tours of downtown, and more than 100 online meetings during the pandemic.
