A criminal complaint has been filed against 53-year-old Kellie Schmidt, who’s charged with 1st-degree murder in the death of her roommate, Thomas Boetcher.

Police say Schmidt claimed in a phone call that Boetcher had threatened to set her on fire before the stabbing.

Sheriff’s Deputies arriving at the crime scene found Boetcher bleeding heavily, and discovered Schmidt hanging from a ceiling with a dog leash around her neck.

A cash bond of $1 million was set for Schmidt, during her first court appearance on Monday.

The incident happened on September 9th, and Boetcher died a few hours later, after being taken to a Marshfield hospital.

Schmidt was treated for injuries resulting from the attempted hanging.

The court is looking for an attorney to represent Schmidt before her next court hearing on Sept. 28.
