Two-hour daytime parking approved for campus-area block
The growth of student rental housing on one block near Myrick Park and UWL has led to parking problems.
As a result, the city of La Crosse plans to impose a 2-hour parking limit on weekdays on the 700 block of North 22nd Street.
The city council president, Barb Janssen, lives on that block and says parking regulations are needed.
“The only way to have some sanity is to have 2-hour parking in front of our homes as well,” Janssen tells the board of public works.
She says some homeowners on the block have resisted parking limits for years, but there are routinely about 4 to 8 cars parked in front of each of two rental houses now in that block.
Janssen says the renters all have friends, “and they tell their friends that, oh, you can park on our street in this section because it’s not restricted, so their friends come and park here as well.”
The public works board approved the 2-hour limit for daytime parking on that block, Monday through Friday.
Janssen says the owners of those buildings reportedly do not want to pay fees for special parking permits.
