Sparta resident charged with attack on police

A Sparta man faces several charges of misconduct against police officers, including a threat to shoot police. 

Twenty-five-year-old Anthony Cox was arrested last week, after police responded to a disturbance. 

Cox is accused of repeatedly trying to grab one officer’s gun and threatening to shoot that officer. 

Two officers had to be treated for injuries after the incident. 

The Monroe County D-A has charged Cox with 15 criminal counts, many of them felonies. 

A judge has set a cash bond of $500, and ordered Cox to have no contact with three Sparta police officers.
