Holmen volleyball headed to state for 1st time in school history
BARABOO, Wis. — For the first time in its history, the Holmen High School volleyball team is headed to state.
The top-seeded Vikings defeated No. 2 Middleton 3-2 (23-25, 29-27, 22-25, 25-20, 15-11) on Saturday.
Holmen (29-2) was led by three seniors — Mara Schmidt had 24 kills, 12 digs, Ellie Kline had 31 kills, three aces and Kassie Mueller added 27 digs, five aces. Holmen setter Rayna McArdle had 26 assists, 15 digs and seven kills, while teammate Kyla Christnovich had five kills, four blocks.
The eight-team field for state will be seeded Sunday.
The Vikings will play at either 1 p.m. or 7 p.m. in Thursday’s quarterfinals from the Resch Center in Green Bay. The semifinals will be Friday and the championship Saturday.
