More complaints about nursing home zoning, another vote to delay

For the second time in as many nights, a proposed zoning change for a La Crosse nursing home has been postponed by a city committee.

On Tuesday, the judiciary committee followed the city plan commission in referring zoning plans for the Bethany Lutheran home for another month.

Bethany wants to expand its housing options by putting up a 4-story building on 7th Street.

Neighbors spoke against any new changes in zoning, which could allow a building to go higher than four floors. At Monday’s plan commission meeting, a proposal to zone for 5.5 floors was discussed.

Those speakers said any taller building would hurt the residential feel of the neighborhood where Bethany is located. The full city council takes up the issue on Nov. 11.
