La Crosse school board to discuss threats, city council talks budget

The La Crosse School District could take a stand on threats made around the nation against school officials, for subjects being taught in the classroom.

The school board’s agenda for Monday night includes a proposed resolution, stating that the La Crosse School District would withdraw its participation with the National Association of School Boards.

The Wisconsin State School Board Association made a similar decision this month.

It was intended as a protest to the National School Boards Association, for complaining to President Joe Biden about threats made to school board members, and then withdrawing the complaint.

The La Crosse School Board meets at 6 p.m. at the Polytechnic School Loft on 5th Avenue South, near Cameron Park, as well as online. Here’s the agenda.

Also, the La Crosse City Council has a rare Monday night meeting, as well, taking its turn to pass a 2022 budget.

The council has its yearly budget hearing at 6 p.m. at the Southside Neighborhood Center. The operating budget agenda can be found here. The meeting could be continued Tuesday night if it runs too long.

The proposed budget includes $70 million in spending — an increase of just over $1 million from 2021.

City leaders have been looking at ways to limit any tax increases to no higher than the average $36 for homeowners passed for 2021.
