Police ID individuals who sent Snapchat threatening to kill teachers, students at a La Crosse high school

Logan High School says police have identified individuals involved in another threat at a La Crosse school.

For the third time in a month, the La Crosse School District has had to deal with some type of threat to one of its schools via social media or email.

The latest is someone threatening to kill students and teachers at Logan High School over Snapchat.

Logan Principal Wally Gnewikow sent a letter to staff and families Monday evening saying police had identified those who made the threat. It did not say whether those individuals had been caught and added that it was “still an active investigation.”

The Snapchat message was oddly specific — someone saying they want to kill “8 students and 2 teachers” after Thanksgiving break. It adds that they’ve been bullied since school started.

Earlier Monday, the school district sent a letter to families and staff notifying them of the situation. The district immediately sent WIZM the info upon request. La Crosse Police have yet to respond with any information via email or post anything on its news site or social media about the situation.

The first message from the district to parents and staff said the Snapchat was not considered an imminent threat to students or staff, so classes and activities would continue.

It goes on to say the district believes information will lead to law enforcement to those responsible for sending the message.

It also urges anyone with information to contact police or the district.

A week and a half ago, classes were cancelled at Central High for a day, before police arrested a 17-year-old for using someone’s email to send threatening messages at the school.

A few weeks before that, Winona Senior High School was investigated after a Snapchat screenshot mentioned shooting up a school. The school mentioned in the screenshot was “Central High School” but it had been deemed a hoax by both Winona and La Crosse police.
