Life-savers in La Crosse region being given awards for helping cardiac patients

Because of the pandemic, there haven’t been many banquets in the last two years to honor area residents for their good deeds.

One group that recognizes medical life-savers is making up for that, by having a number of smaller ceremonies.

Tuesday, a few Gundersen Health System employees in La Crosse — including paramedics and ambulance workers — were given awards with a small lunch in their honor, for helping people who have had cardiac arrest.

The 7 Rivers CAPE organization recognized six people this week with certificates and Kwik Trip gift cards. A group of firefighters will receive honors next week.

Tom Carpenter, a paramedic involved with the CAPE group, says about 300 people in the area will get honors during ceremonies in the coming months.
