La Crosse’s first major snow Friday likely to kick in alternate-side parking
A “dangerous winter storm” is headed La Crosse’s way, according to the National Weather Service, although forecasters say the area may end up on the southern fringes of the storm system.
One forecast map of the system issued Thursday night said the amount of snow expected in La Crosse County could vary from a low of 4 inches to as much as 9 inches.
The heaviest band of snow could bring more than a foot to cities such as Eau Claire, Wis., and Wabasha, Minn. Little snow is expected south of Prairie du Chien, Wis.
Forecasters added that the snow could begin late Friday morning, reach its peak during the night and end by 9 a.m. Saturday.
Drivers are being urged to delay or change travel plans if possible.
La Crosse has not yet had a snowfall of an inch or more this season.
The city’s alternate-side parking rules will go into effect after the first 2-inch snowfall, and then will stay in effect until the middle of March.

I agree … the Alternate Side Parking rule is confusing and unnecessary unless there is an actual snowstorm. Why do we have to do ASP all winter when there is no threat of bad weather? The plows rarely run on my street anyway so what’s the point?
