A different kind of school threat, discussed in Coulee Region

Published

Multiple schools in the area have reportedly been seeing a school threat via a TikTok “challenge.”

The Winona Police Department posted Thursday that it has seen no specific threat toward schools in town.

Many other districts in the Greater La Crosse Area have been notifying parents that the message on TikTok — a social media app — did not originate in the area.

The “challenge” specifically points to Friday, Dec. 17, in regards to threats toward schools.

“If anyone participates in this challenge they could be facing felony crimes and possible expulsion from school,” Winona Police posted. “This is not something we will take lightly.”

The Winona P.D. added that parents should have a conversation with their kids about real consequences for such actions, and also to contact law enforcement if anyone hears of such threats.

There have been actual threats made at schools over the past two months — four of them have come from someone in a district in the area, while two others were hoxes.

The most info we have on these types of threats are from Central High School and another from Logan. Others have happened at Onalaska and Holmen middle schools. The hoaxes came out of Winona and Tomah.
