It may have been another disappointing Christmas for lovers of winter weather in La Crosse.

After the city had a white Christmas Day in 2020, there was no snow on the ground in La Crosse this year on the 25th.

La Crosse has had at least an inch of snow cover on just one of the last five Christmases.

The city’s high Saturday was 38, after two consecutive days of 40-degree temps.

Snow did start falling in the area early Sunday night, and a storm system could leave up to 2 inches total on the ground in La Crosse and other locations south of I-90.

Higher totals are expected farther north.

Five inches of snow fell on the city earlier in the month, and that was all melted by near 70-degree temps on Dec. 16.
