41-year-old La Crosse man dies, after car was trapped under semi in I-90 accident

A 41-year-old La Crosse man died Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 90 near West Salem, after rear ending a semi.

The Southwest Region of the State Patrol, which includes the Tomah and Deforest posts, took 145 calls for service over a 19-hour period beginning at noon Tuesday.

The crash happened around 1:55 p.m.

The semi was slowing due to traffic ahead and poor road conditions from the storm.

The 41-year-old, driving a 2000 Toyota Avalon, trailing couldn’t slow down in time. The report says he first rear-ended the semi before getting trapped underneath the trailer.

No other details were reported and the driver’s name is being withheld by the State Patrol.

Traffic was delayed for about three hours.

Of the 145 calls taken by the SW Region of the State Patrol, the stats were as follows:

  • 28 motorist assists
  • 56 runoff (car in ditch, no damage)
  • 48 property damage crashes
  • 10 unknown injury
  • 1 injury crash
  • 1 fatal crash (West Salem)
